Seven Stories is a biannual comics anthology edited by João Sobral and published by O Panda Gordo. Its purpose is to contribute to the dissemination of contemporary practices of comics by showcasing exciting new work by a diverse range of international artists.
The idea behind this fourth issue was to challenge cartoonists who are notable for their remarkable use of colour to make monochromatic comics. Colour is often seen as an upgrade from black and white but editor João Sobral doesn't see it that way. The results couldn't have made him happier and he's now thrilled to share the beauty and artistry of these amazing comics.
Seven Stories 4 features cover artworks by Ema Gaspar, and comics by Mariana Pita, Rosie Brand, Chloé Bertron, Haejin Park, María Medem, Zane Zlemeša, and Jooyoung Kim.
"To some, Seven Stories will undoubtedly be seen as too boundary-pushing, too experimental, too affected or even too raw (one of my favourites this issue, for example, is Jooyoung Kim’s unlikely love story ‘Man and Woman’ which will be too alternative in style for the unadventurous) but all those things are among its paramount strengths rather than its weaknesses. If you are in any way interested in publications that look beyond defining what comics are and instead are concerned with their limitless potentialities then Seven Stories is the ongoing investigative work-in-progress project for you"
